Datuk Tan is an approved auditor, liquidator and a registered tax agent. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Masters in Tourism from the University of Toulouse. He is also an approved auditor and liquidator by the Labuan Financial Services Authority.

Datuk Tan has  some 30 years experience and his technical expertise involves Audit assurance, Insolvency practices, Taxation consulting, Business restructuring and due diligence exercises.

He has written technical articles for the Chartered Institute of Taxation Malaysia and  featured article for the Oxford Business group on Incentives and allowances in Sabah.
